Dr. Kotkin received his medical degree from Pirogov Second Moscow Medical School in USSR and completed his internship and residency in urology at Moscow City Hospital #1. After the training he pursued the clinical and academic career in Urology as Assistant Professor at the Moscow Research Institute of Urology, Moscow, USSR. In 1987 he was awarded PhD after completion of his thesis in Pathophysiology of Genitourinary Diseases during Pregnancy.  Upon immigrating to the USA he repeated his training in Surgery and Urology by completing his surgical internship at St. Elizabeth’s Medical center in Boston and Urology residency at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. Since 1996 he has been in private urology practice in Boston, and later on joined the teaching Department of Urology of Tufts Medical Center where he has been until 2017.

Dr.Kotkin provides state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment for the majority of urologic conditions with emphasize on efficiency and patient convenience: office is certified for office surgery and a lot of procedures such as vasectomy, cystoscopy, biopsy and some prostate laser surgery  could be done in the office even under general anesthesia or sedation.

Dr. Kotkin has an extensive expertise in the treatment of urinary incontinence, in both males and females, including sling surgery in women, surgery for prolapsed bladder (vaginal or robotic approach),  male slings and artificial sphincter placement in the management of male incontinence after prostate surgery, placement of urinary neurostimulators.  He provides all types of treatment of erectile dysfunction, including local injection therapy and penile implant surgery (listed as a recommended prosthetic surgeon on Boston Scientific Inc.). He is widely using minimally invasive BPH surgery, including green light and other vaporizing lasers, Urolift etc. His practice is fully capable to take care of all types of urinary stones: shock wave lithotripsy, endoscopic or percutaneous laser lithotripsy are available.

Dr. Kotkin is involved in clinical research in Urology that focuses on treatments of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), erectile dysfunction (ED), interstitial cystitis (IC), overactive bladder (OAB), urinary incontinence (UI), prostate cancer (PC) and other urologic conditions. He has served as a primary investigator in more than 15 clinical research studies in Urology, and Women and Men’s Health. He is the clinical research director of “Alpha Clinical Research” Center in Boston.
Dr. Kotkin is an active member of American Urological Association (AUA), and Society of Urodynamics, Female Urology and Urogenital Reconstructive Surgery (SUFU)
